Lawyer - Law Society of British Columbia (since 2007) |
Collaborative Lawyer - BC Collaborative Roster Society (since 2015) |
Family Law Mediator - Accredited by the Law Society of British Columbia (since 2014) |
I have practiced family law since my call to the bar of British Columbia in August 2007. I graduated with distinction from the University of Victoria with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology prior to attending law school at the University of British Columbia. After living and working in the Vancouver area for 10 years following law school, in 2017 I returned home to Vancouver Island and established Menzies Family Law in Victoria.
I am experienced and skilled as an advocate, having appeared in both the Provincial and Supreme Courts of British Columbia in separation and divorce cases. However, I observed that going to court, although sometimes necessary, often produced disappointing results for families. The adversarial process can further fuel existing conflict. So, I decided to pursue further training, and since 2013 have been qualified as a Family Law Mediator and Collaborative Law Professional. I was admitted as a member of the BC Collaborative Roster Society in 2015, which requires committment to training and work annually, in Collaborative Practice.
I live in the West Shore of Victoria, BC, and am able to serve clients throughout Greater Victoria, Vancouver Island, and Vancouver. I’m a mother of two young children and my favourite things include their laughter, coffee, rare moments of solitude, and being outside near the water.
